About
Cornerstone Press-Chicago
is the publishing arm of
Cornerstone magazine, a bi-annual journal of faith and culture
which has been published since 1972. Since 1984, the magazine has sponsored
the annual Cornerstone Festival in Central
Illinois, where 20,000 people from around the world come together each
year to experience the "Cornerstone" approach to culture and the arts
in the setting of Christian community. Indeed, all of
these entities are outreaches of Jesus
People USA, (aka "JPUSA"), a Christian community based in the inner-city
of Chicago, also founded in 1972. Nearly 500 people call JPUSA home, living
and working together in community-owned businesses and reaching out to
the neighborhood in local ministries which include a shelter
and youth programs, and beyond the neighborhood in music, publishing,
and other endeavors. (Since 1989, JPUSA has been a congregation of the
Evangelical Covenant Church, a Chicago-based
denomination.)
Though our worldview is Christian, we at Cornerstone Press-Chicago do
not consider ourselves a "religious publisher". We are interested in
publishing books of quality and integrity, fiction or non-fiction in the very
broad range of catagories in which we are interested -- from social concerns
to literature to popular culture. We are a small press and currently publish
only two or three titles a year, though we'd love to increase that number in
the future.
